Introducing me…

Good day to you from the beautiful Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I thought that since it has been two years that Steve has opened up The WoodArt Studio that I might as well introduce myself and let you know a bit about me and my ties with it. They really are nothing big as I am not, I repeat not an artist at all and I do nothing to create the art, except maybe put the cord through the necklaces and stamp the music notes on some of them. Each and every other piece that you see, admire and purchase is all Steve from concept to finale.

I am a genealogist. Yes I find the dead people, no not the "Grateful Dead" either. I search vital records, census forms and the likes there of. I teach privately or in groups and can also do personal research if you haven't got the time. In fact the first of several classes will be starting August 23rd via the Harrisonburg Parks and Recreation. Follow the link and read on page 13 what you will learn via the "Genealogical Appointments" class. Future classes will be taught via the Augusta County Government Office in Verona.
Box Elder Tree Necklaces
As some of you may have guessed I write this blog for us, along with my own blog at GenealogicalAppointments. From time to time you may find me at the Harrisonburg Farmers Market with Steve behind the tables with all of those awesome functional art pieces that Steve hand designs, creates and finishes or you may discover me at OASIS Fine Art & Craft or over in Charlottesville at C'Ville Arts. I love being Steve's wife so much that emails from the business are signed…Debbie wife of The WoodArt Studio artist Steve.
So its official you now know a little bit more about the person who tries to write to you once a week. Any questions? Please feel free to ask. If you are receiving this email for the first time and would like to take delivery of more sign up via our site or just drop me an email. Unsubscribing in the future is as easy as dropping me an email requesting so.
Until next we meet… choose the right branch…woodturning or genealogical

Etsy Week Continues

Good late morning to you all. I know when last we met I told you that I was plowing into Etsy. Well the field is not plowed completely yet. This week was also spent cultivating the field so to speak. I had spoken about how each of the pieces has to be specifically written about and so hence I have spent a lot of time writing and even retaking some pictures. So maybe that is why I am feeling a little wiped at writing. In fact time for a second cup of java to jolt my mind.

Second cup... here we are along with 12 listings later and I don't know what to write about. UGH I feel like Charlie Brown. So maybe I should open this wide up and ask what you all would like to see in the future on this blog. Studio, wood, daily, cooking, new work, genealogy? Oh yes that is another whole story as I (Debbie wife of The WoodArt Studio artist Steve) is a budding genealogist. Is there a tree connection happening here? Maybe so. Either way why not drop a sentence or two and share with me what you want. New pictures, old pictures, better pictures? Would you like to write a guest post or two. Fine with me. Remember the great post by chef Scott a couple of weeks ago. Well you too can write for me and I for you if you want.
Ok so the second cup is rapidly working and this post is rambling on. So to close remember that tomorrow, National Fun at Work day we will be at the HFM celebrating the day by having fun meeting you. Don't forget to check out the new items on our Etsy page.

Until next we meet...

Daisy

#101 "Daisy"

"Daisy, Daisy/Give me your answer do/I'm half crazy/all for the love of you". So the lyrics of the 1892 Harry Darce song go. We were so in love with the way this lady turned out that we also named her “Daisy”, which also happens to be the nickname of my Grandmother.

Our “Daisy” was born in 2010 right here in Virginia. She has a genealogy of different trees. Her body is Birds Eye Maple that was first turned and then flipped inside out. The bottom half of her body is slightly dyed a soft green. The upper part of her torso has four hand carved Cocobolo buttons. Her head is a smooth, rich Cocobolo also. The hat that sits askew on her head is hand carved Yellow Heart. From any angle she is pure pleasure to look at, like the Mona Lisa, simply art. I have posted in the Studio Gallery a side view of her.

Daisy would make a most memorable Mother’s Day gift but keep in mind like your Mother there is only one Daisy. Until next time, create your day.
